Wrecsam Council own a large site on Rhuthun Road, Wrecsam, which used to be a highways depot but a decision was made to sell off the site to Morrisons as a supermarket. Situated next door to this site is Wrecsam's Ambulance Station and as a neighbour the Wales Ambulance Trust would have been consulted on the development; no objection was received.
The site was granted planning permission for a supermarket some months ago but since then, not much has happened. Further enquiries by the local member, Cllr Phil Wynne revealed that the Welsh Ambulance Trust, have raised concerns about the effect the supermarket will have on their ability to carry out "999" response operations from their Ruthin Road depot.
The Ambulance Trust will now jeopardise a development which will deliver 300 plus much needed new jobs, improved road infrastructure for the area, a shopping destination and a major capital receipt which has been ear-marked by Wrecsam County Borough Council for their schools building project.
What is completely nonsensical about this whole fiasco is the fact that the Ambulance Trust have recently submitted a planning application for a new joint head-quarters with the Fire Services, to be located on Croesnewydd Road. If that is their long term plans why should they want to object to a supermarket development.
I understand that Lesley Griffiths AM has made representations to Edwina Hart to bring pressure on the Welsh Ambulance Trust to withdraw the objection, but that seems to have been to no avail.
