Border author comes to town

The author of a new book about the Wales-England border is coming to Wrexham's Saith Seren bar to discuss his latest publication, All the Wide Border.

The book by Mike Parker has been described as an "enthralling journey that beautifully celebrates our ancient frontier land and is a present-day reminder of its’ enduring duty.’ by comedian Tudur Owen. It combines elements of history, travel and unusual insights woven with a great love of the subject and subtle humour that befits an author who started life as a stand-up comic.

Mike Parker was born in England but has lived in Wales for half of his life. His other books include the bestseller Map Addict , The Wild Rover and On the Red Hill, which was shortlisted and Highly Commended for the 2020 Wainwright Prize for UK Nature Writing and won the non-fiction Wales Book of the Year Award. He's also presented TV documentaries and stood as a parliamentary candidate as well as continuing to write travel pieces for various UK publications.

The event in Saith Seren is free and is being hosted by well-known local writer Peter Read.

Event organiser Marc Jones said: "This is a book of real relevance to a Wrexham audience - it follows the border areas that we all know and love but brings a fresh insight at every twist in a river or turn of a road. Mike brings a very unique take on the whole border debate as someone who grew up in Kidderminster and has made his home near Machynlleth. Like the book, it's been quite a journey and I know his humour and passion will make it a great evening."

The event starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 23rd May in Saith Seren, 18 Chester St, Wrexham LL13 8BG.
